Specializing in healthcare law, she regularly advises clients regarding audit, reimbursement, regulatory compliance, contract and licensure matters. Her clients include hospitals, health plans, physician groups, physical therapy organizations, ASCs, IDTFs, and numerous other healthcare providers, suppliers and professionals.
Specifically, Ms. Williamson has successfully represented numerous healthcare providers in Medicare and Blue Cross audits and appeals. She has also advised numerous healthcare providers on compliance with the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark, including advice regarding self-disclosures under the Self Disclosure Protocol and analysis of a variety of arrangements under Stark ownership and compensation exceptions. Ms. Williamson often serves as “general counsel” to small and medium-sized healthcare providers without their own in-house counsel. Ms. Williamson has advised her clients on a variety of compliance matters, including Medicare and private payer reimbursement issues, and HIPAA compliance. Her HIPAA experience includes analyzing breaches, responding to OCR complaints and drafting policies, procedures and forms required by the Privacy and Security rules. She has also successfully represented numerous healthcare professionals in licensing cases and payer disaffiliation appeals.
Ms. Williamson is also an author, and speaks frequently on a variety of healthcare law related topics. Ms. Williamson has presented the Michigan Health Law Update at ICLE’s Annual Health Law Institute each year from 2009-2014.
She is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Health Care Law Section, serving on its Council since 2010. She also participates in the American Bar Association’s Health Care Law Section and the American Health Lawyers Association. Ms. Williamson has been honored as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in Health Care Law in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and was named as a Michigan Super Lawyer Rising Star in both 2011 and 2012.
Ms. Williamson received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude from Western Michigan University in 1994, and her Juris Doctorate degree, magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law in 1997, where she was an editor on the Law Review. Ms. Williamson is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
