For the past 18 months Henry Ford Health System and Wayne State Univeristy have been in talks for affiliation. Their hope is to rival Beaumont and Michigan Medicine.
If all goes as planned over 1,300 physicians would be merged in to one group and the hospital would be able to recieve residents and graduates of one of Detroit’s largest medical schools, Wayne State Univeristy.
Not only would this provide an increased physician network, but it would also increase research opportunities for the hospital and university, as well as increase education. Future physicians would be able to more hands on working one on one with the hospital and the hospital could develop more research programs employing university students and faculty.
This could be a huge step for the city of Detroit and could allow Wayne State to become a nationally recognized university. The affiliation will also make it easier on providers as well as patients. With a larger network there is more opportunity for referrals and highly specialized care.
