Healthcare entities continue to be warned about various hackers, ransomware threats, cybersecurity vulnerabilities and more. Each year, the number of attacks on healthcare entities climbs higher than the year before.
Healthcare entities are frequent targets, as they contain a vast amount of patient information, including Social Security numbers, payment information, and a variety of personal information. It’s essentially one-stop shopping for a nefarious actor.
There are also threats that come from within. Employees can often cause issues when they snoop on records or even steal information themselves.
Recently, there have been multiple published hackings in Michigan.
In March, a breach at Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, P.C. impacted 43,071 patient records. They were victims of a ransomware attack. The ransomware attack impacted both employees and patients.
In April, both Advantage Benefits Group and Spectrum Health System in Michigan also experienced breaches.
Breaches continue to plague the healthcare world and are expected to get worse, not better.
It is essential that you protect your practice.
Train your employees about potential threats, phishing emails, and breach readiness.
Make sure your risk assessment is up to date and your inventory of devices is updated regularly.
Do vulnerability testing to find and repair any potential areas of concern.
