With the rise in the use of telehealth and various technology interfaces, hacking is at an all-time high.
Cyberattacks have continued to target healthcare practices this year, with many consequences for healthcare entities.
How can you protect your practice?
Ensure that all of your security updates are regularly performed. Is your risk assessment up-to-date? Do you have a current inventory of all devices? If not, now is the time to remedy your risk assessment and complete your inventory. Ensure that you have policies and procedures in place regarding your risk assessment.
Your policies and procedures should be updated as changes are made, and your staff should be thoroughly trained.
It is also important to make sure you have adequate security measures in place.
Make sure that your firewall is sufficient. Check that you have backups of PHI in other locations, and the ability to access them quickly.
Check to see that your cyber insurance coverage is enough to cover any potential damages.
Test your breach procedures and your recovery backup plans.
Does your organization utilize penetration testing? If not, you may want to look into testing.
And always make sure to train your staff on policies and procedures, disaster readiness, breach responses and what to look for to alert for any security issues.
